Two decades after his death, is still relevant and a fixture in the headlines. From to, the “Hail Mary” rapper’s name and body of work live on. Now, a tangible part of Tupac’s legacy is making it ways to the auction block. Following auctions that sold off the BMW Tupac was murdered in, a, a gold jewelry piece, and other unique items, the original handwritten liner notes for Tupac Shakur’s final studio album The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory have made their way to the market. Notably, the note contains a number of scathing disses towards a wide-ranging array of high-profile figures: Dr. Dre, The Notorious B.I.G., Nas, JAY-Z, Mobb Deep, and more are all named and called out for various offenses. 'I dedicate this 2 Jack 'the snitch' Agnant for ordering the hit, 2 Tut for shootin me, 2 Puffy, Big, Stretch, Lil Shawn, Jimmy Henchman & whoever else remained silent while conspiring my downfall,' he wrote to begin the letter, referencing East Coast hip-hop luminaries like Puff Daddy (Diddy) and Stretch, who by that time had already been dead for almost a year. In other parts of the piece, 'Pac disses Hov, The Notorious B.I.G.' S wife, Faith Evans, and Dr. 'Thanks 2 Mobb Deep 4 opening your mouths and letting me squashing ya no record selling asses 2 dust.' From there, Tupac calls Dr. Dre a 'closet homo,' and 'thanks' Nas for allegedly refusing to mind his own business with regards to 'Pacs feuds with other East Coast rappers. He also calls De La Soul 'fat washed up bums.'
The lyrics were written and recorded in only three days and mixing took an additional four days. These are the last songs Shakur recorded before his fatal shooting on September 7, 1996.

The emotion and anger showcased on the album has been admired by a large part of the hip-hop community, including other rappers. Recognized as ‘Pac’s most influential body of work, the Killuminati album was not only his most controversial, but its concept still has many of his fans believing that ‘Pac is still alive. Besides his beef with Nas, Jay-Z, B.I.G. And almost any relevant New York rapper you can think of, the album hinges on the life of Makaveli, a play on the name of Italian writer and philosopher Nicollo Machiavelli, who is believed to have staged his own death.

Death Row/Getty Image Reconciling who Tupac was is never easy given how complex his character was. His career went through so many phases and shifts, he could be a passionate man of the people in one instance, then turn into the resented villain the next. In his career, those who were around to witness it saw him morph from the militant, aspiring MC on 2pacalypse Now to the bad boy of All Eyez on Me in both his personal life and his music. But no project better encapsulated who Tupac was than his first posthumous project, The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory. That album turns twenty years old this Saturday, November 5.

The album cover, which features Shakur on the cross in an attempt to convey his by the media, is intended to imply an artistic resurrection and was created in mid-August 1996. George 'Papa G' Pryce, Former Head of Publicity for Death Row, claimed that 'Makaveli which we did was a sort of tongue-in-cheek, and it was not ready to come out, [but] after Tupac was murdered, it did come out. Before that, it was going to be a sort of an underground [release].' Recording and production [ ] Many of Shakur's usual producers were not involved in the project. The only producer with whom Shakur had worked prior to this album was, the son of and brother of Shakur's girlfriend.
Everything about smacks of exploitation. Released only eight weeks after died from gunshot wounds, Death Row released this posthumous album under the name of, a pseudonym derived from the Italian politician Niccolo Machiavelli, who faked his own death and reappeared seven days later to take revenge on his enemies. Naturally, the appearance of so shortly after 's death led many conspiracy theorists to surmise the rapper was still alive, but it was all part of a calculated marketing strategy by Death Row -- the label needed something to sustain interest in the album, since the music here is so shoddy. Proved that was continuing to grow as a musician and a human being, but erases that image by concentrating on nothing but tired G-funk beats and back-biting East Coast/West Coast rivalries. Himself sounds uninterested in the music, which makes the conventional, unimaginative music all the more listless. If he had survived to complete, it is possible that the record could have become something worthwhile, but the overall quality of the material suggests that the album would have been a disappointment no matter what circumstances it appeared under.
The parting project took on greater significance after his untimely death in September of 1996 because, when broken down to its basics, the 12 songs end up creating the most complete version of who he was. What is often lost regarding Tupac’s career, is he only released five full length albums, and only four of them came out while he was living. Everything he did was over the course of five years, even though he left behind a catalogue of material that’s been mined to create five more albums and a smattering of mixtapes. Tupac wasn’t a rapping soothsayer, yet he held a strong ability to articulate what black people were facing at that time, and what would be coming in the years ahead if changes weren’t made.

The album’s preliminary title was “The 3 Day Theory”, (originally consisted of around 14 tracks). Of The Outlawz & Ronald “Riskie” Brent revealed in an August 2014 interview that the official name of the album was mixed up in the rush to release the album following Tupac’s death. Tupac wanted the album to be called; “Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory,” with Makaveli the Don referenced as the artist name and Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory as the main title. The color pattern of the cultural production is a gloomy red and black. The only light in the artistry is the moon and the few beams of light that emerge out of the cracks on the cross. There are many interpretations of this album cover, the primary theme communicates that through depiction, Tupac is highlighting what he perceives to be his being vilified by the media and left alone to suffer his fate. The parental advisor sticker could be a reference to both what he perceived to be his demonization due to his promiscuous lifestyle, but also and most importantly, it could be a reference to his conviction of sexual assault, a charge in which he maintained his innocence against.
