Hi All, Is there any step by step procedures available for installing ubuntu in a DELL venue 8 pro tablet. The tablet preloaded with windows 10. My device is Dell Venue Pro 11 which came with Windows 8 x64 pre-installed on the SSD. Previous issues -> Firstly I installed Ubuntu on dual-boot in the same SSD: after doing that Windows stopped. Anyone tried out one of the 3.18 rc's yet? I tested all of these kernels (with Debian 7 Lxde). Note that since the stable 3.17.1 (I didn't test the 3.17.0) kernel, the mobile keyboard problem has been fixed (the keyboard and the touchPad are working). Others issues like Wifi or touchscreen not working are still here.
I wanted to install ubuntu on my venue 8 pro but forgot to turn of the bitlocker. I turned of secured boot and tryed to boot ubuntu from my usb. When i tried to boot it the screen with the Dell logo popped up and said something with Bitlocker the screen went blue and text came telling me to write the bitlocker key or so. I didn`t do that and started the venue new the dell logo came up but then the screen went blue without text and it stood blue till it turned of after 1-3 minutes.
However the touchscreen is working.' My ubuntu skills are limited, anyone have any idea what 'frame buffer' is or any ideas about the wifi? I get my OTG cable today and will spend the next few days trying to boot different linux flavors but any comments suggestions would be appreciated.

I don't want to buy it unless I can get rid of windows and run ubuntu. I just bought one of these and tried booting Fedora on it.
I did plug my Venue11 (i5) into my cellphone cable with the other end attached to another computer. Unsurprisingly I did not see any communication between the devices, but when I rebooted the Dell it complained of a '3 watt PSU' being plugged in, which was interesting. I have generally been extremely disappointed with this device under Linux - Even after overcoming the hardware problems (not for the faint of heart), I have not found a desktop which works nicely with the high res (and thus very small pixels by default) screen. This can somewhat be tuned with bigger pixels and tweeks, but it is a very, very sucky tablet experience (onscreen keyboard does not pop up as needed, does not auto-rotate, bad UI etc). I'm hoping things will improve with the Touch UI version of Ubuntu which is due out with 15.04, but right now I would not consider this device as a Linux tablet - and this from a Linux zealot who uses Linux on the desktop to the total exclusion of Windows!!! Care to tell me a bit more about your usage case so I can give you more precise insights?

Hi, yes i was able to run live DVD (usb stick). I do not remember bios version - i no longer have dell (switched to yoga 2). 'In the GRUB menu, highlight “Try Ubuntu”, and press “e” to edit it. In the editing screen, scroll down to the command line options, where it says “quiet splash”.

I already did it actually, here are all the distro I've tried so far in live mode: 1) distro which do run and work but they don't recognize the adapter: • Backbox 4.4 • Fedora 23 • Kali linux 2.0 • Kali linux light 2.0 • Linuxmint 17.3 Cinnamon • Lubuntu 15.10 • Tails 1.8.1 • Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS • Ubuntu 15.10 • Ubuntu 15.10 mate 2) distro which had other issues: • Tails 1.8.1 (version created with unebootin did work very badly, whereas YUMI did not make it boot at all) • Lxle 14.4.3 (no driver video recognized, so I could not check the adapter) •. While Debian has been able to do this for a while the older kernel holds back some functionality niggles that require extra effort to attend to. Meanwhile, openSUSE Tumbleweed runs gloriously with a little effort. To my surprise Leap 42.3 came to the party too. I'm releasing ' a little tool I made in Python that monitors the WPA Supplicant and then reloads the kernel module if WiFi throws a wobbly. Linux on the Venue 8 is getting to a point where all major distributions will just work as long as there's a 4.12-series Kernel or higher included. In light of this expect less frequent updates here unless I notice something very exciting happening. Timing is good as there have been alot of personal changes in 2017 (for the good) that leaves less time for casual nerding.
